Technical Colleges

California technical colleges provide certificate and degree based programs that are industry specific and take less time to complete than the conventional degree counterparts. Flexible course schedules and streamlined courses allow participants to gain new qualifications in as little as twelve months.

California Technical schools provide:

(i) a bridge for two years courses to gain entry into four year degree programs

(ii) vocational training in a diverse range of fields

(iii) non-credit courses for personal enrichment that do not carry any college credit

(iv) Early college experience for students to become familiar with the college system whilst still enrolled in high school.

California technical college entry requirements:

(v) High school students (in K12) who wish to enroll whilst still attending high school must meet with the high school counselor to complete the application in accordance with the counselors recommendation.

(vi) Entry to certain programs may require the applicant to be 18 years or older and have the equivalent of a high school diploma. In some cases, the diploma may nor be required.

(vii) International students face separate entry conditions. The advantage of California career colleges is that international students can complete two years of a four year degree program. Since California technical universities do not offer bachelor degrees, the student can transfer into a degree program on completion. The student will be required to provide transcripts of high school and secondary school achievements. When English is not the native language, students will be required to undertake TOEFL (Test of English on a Foreign Language).

In some cases, California residents have enrollment priority over non-Californian residents. This varies depending on college policy and outside residents may be subject to higher course fees.

Financial Aid for California Technical Colleges: There are several alternatives for funding help. Federal student aid is available through the US Department of Education to qualifying students who are enrolled in study that leads to an academic, professional or vocational degree or certificate. Stafford Loans are not subject to financial qualification but Perkins loans are funded by the individual school at low interest rates. Parents can also apply for PLUS loan financial assistance.
